101: #CogSZN

I get a ton of DM’s on this topic and I figured the best thing to do is just break it down Cog by Cog. This is some serious nerd 💩 which makes it all the more awesome. Let’s go down the rabbit hole, shall we?

We are basing all of our scenarios off of the Epic Speed 💎💎💎 Head. These heads have a starting lie angle of 56 degrees +- .5 depending on sorting. For context, retail heads come in around a 60 degree lie angle.

Standard COG

This is what you would find in your retail heads, it covers the widest swath of player profiles and gives the fitter/builder enough room up or down to effectively dial in the player.

Loft up +2 (8.5 to 10.5)
Loft down -1 (8.5 to 7.5)
Upright +3 (56 to 59)
Neutral (8.5, 56)

Strong Cog (Green Dot)

This was designed for players looking either for a very open look at address or obviously looking to go into very low lofts. With the longer driver rage that is happening, this Cog has become very popular for players like Phil who is in a 47+ inch driver.

Loft up +1 (8.5 to 9.5)
Loft down -2 (8.5 to 6.5)
Upright +3 (56 to 59)
Neutral (8.5, 56)

Flat Cog (Red Line)

I’d say this is the Cog that garners the most curiosity amongst gear heads and fitters. In my opinion, it’s the component that really opened up a ton of doors for fitters that work with better players. It must be said that the flat Cog only goes down in lie angle about .75 but with an already flattish lie angle to start, it’s just enough play to give players that extra flat look at address. With the modern golf swings encouraging a shallow angle of attack, the flat Cog achieves the optics and the strike patterns players love.

*PSA These are TOUR only!! Don’t ask.

Loft up +2 (8.5 to 10.5)
Loft down -1 (8.5 to 7.5)
Upright +2 (56 to 58)

Flat -.75 (56 to 55.25)
Neutral (8.5, 56)

Any questions, fire away!

I had been on WRX for years! Even got to go to Callaway on a trip. Congrats on the new gig. The content is awesome. What is the availability of the green dot adapter? I’d love one for my Epic Speed just to get the face angle more open.

I believe the strong Cog is only available through our tour dept although I’m sure if you ask around hard enough you could get one;)

Johnny, wonder what would happen if you pulled the cogs of a strong adapter and put them on the base of a red dot adapter.. I did that one time when my cogs came off in my bag. Talk about anti left !!

Can you clarify the tour flat numbers? I have the red adapter and I was told it was flatter in N and D by 0.75 deg. My adapter doesn’t have a -0.75 setting. I thought that was what you got in N. My adapter has: -1, D, +2, N on top and N, S, D and +1 on bottom. Thanks!

In Neutral, it sits at -.75

I have a green dot adapter and the cogs came off. I pulled the 2 cogs from another one of my factory adapter tips. Will I just switch the numbers, positive becomes negative and negative becomes positive. +2 is really -2.
