Since sticking the Jaws Full Toe in the bag some 3 months ago I have been thoroughly impressed at some of the shots that I’ve added around the greens.

Callaway Custom 🔥🔥🔥

Personally, I’ve always had a great short game in past years have relied on it when my ball striking took a right turn on Struggle Street and only made a U-Turn when I put my “Wunder Spec” Apex ’21 Irons in and CSX ball.

Read this for the info on my iron switch:

The main thing I’ve noticed with Jaws Full Toe isn’t necessarily the amount of spin; it’s not a late-night infomercial wedge, but how it’s spinning. What I mean by that is on shots that I rely on coming out dead, an open-faced shot out of the rough; for example, I can now play more aggressively with speed and rely on some spin where before there was little to be found.

That’s where the higher CG, the full face of grooves, and that back weight pad come into play. It’s like Roger Cleveland, and Co. gave me a nice little second sweet spot.

So what shots did I add?

  1. Open-faced shots from out of the rough to a tight pin. With the extra grooves up high and the way the grooves are cross-cut, I now have the ability to add some speed and catch it out of the toe with spin. Think about that for a second…usually, those shots come out like a Charlie Hough Knuckle Ball, and now I have control over the ball. What a concept.
  2. From 60-80 yards, I can hit this open-faced, low (yes low) spinner from back in my stance that rips the cover off the ball. In the past, yes, it would spin from that distance, but now I can fly it low due to the high CG, and the ball literally stops on a dime.

In Episode 1 of the “Jaws Full Toe Spin Series,” you will see my hitting a shot that clearly isn’t a fun shot to evaluate spin, but for me, it’s the truest test. Why? Because gravity, grain, etc., don’t want the ball to do anything but roll. It’s a shot where in the past, no matter what shot I play, I have an 8-12 footer. From a good lie to a normal flag, I can make any wedge spin; that ain’t no test.

If the wedge is sound and the grooves are nasty, not only will I be able to keep the ball in my hand, but I can also do it with multiple trajectories. That’s the mark of a good wedge. The way Callaway cross-cut the grooves to ensure that even on open face shots, the wedge still has grooves that will play as if the wedge was square is the key.

Quick Note: In videos #1and #2, I’m using Chrome Soft (Red Box) golf balls with Truvis. Imagine these shots with Chrome Soft X LOL

I’m having a BLAST with this thing and have hit some shots that have even an arrogant punk like me going. Whoa, that was pretty good. I like to think I’ve seen it all…apparently not.

Episode #4 of the Jaws Full Toe Spin Series, we will be diging it out of the rough:)
