Tour Report: Genesis Invitational

This week at Riviera had a different feel than last week in Scottsdale. There was an almost palpable stillness; players are getting in that “zone” that you always hear about, and getting everything going in the right direction is essential. It’s the final event of the west coast swing, and you can sense that the idea of a looming Major around the corner is on everyone’s mind.

The Genesis is the first in a string of big events on serious Major Championship level golf courses. After this week, the TOUR head to PGA National, Bay Hill, Sawgrass, Innisbrook, Austin CC, and then Augusta. It’s Go Time.

On-site, we had Tour Manager Jacob Davidson, Kellen Watson, Simon Wood, Odysseys Joe Toulon, Eric Stubben, and of course, the legend Roger Cleveland.

Fairway Wood Testing

The Tour Team is now in the process of slowly seeding out the new Tour Issue Fairway woods. At the moment, we have Rahm, Xander, Burns, Kiz, Leish, Ancer, Lee, Grace, Min Woo, and a few others all either testing or have them in the bag. The main point of focus is the Rogue ST LS, Rogue ST 💎💎💎 and Rogue ST 💎💎💎T. We now offer an HL in these heads, which has given our Tour Team a ton of versatility to increase launch without sacrificing proper spin.

Rogue ST LS: Our lowest spinning (retail) model with neutral ball flight overall.
Rogue ST 💎💎💎: Similar to Epic SZ; neutral shot shape, touch higher launch and spin than LS.
Rogue ST 💎💎💎T: Very similar to the Epic SZ-T; camber in the sole to help with Turf Interaction. This head is suited to players who like to hit down on fairway woods while keeping spin down. Deeper face than 💎💎💎 due to shape.

Roger Cleveland doing his thing

It was a home game for the 🐐 RC. If he is on-site, the players seem to flock to him for wedge work, and that was evident this week as Roger tuned up wedges for several players, including Min Woo Lee, Bez, Mav, Frittelli, Rahm (confirming a few things), and some notable non-staffers that I cannot mention (but would love to lol)

Mav McNealy has a new 60/08W with some back relief to test. Mav is currently in a set of MD4’s (52, 56, 58)
Sunshine grind on a Jaws Forged (60/10C) for Min Woo Lee. Min will test this next week.
RC ground up a new MD5 “S” grind for Dylan Frittelli. Roger shaves a little bounce off of the back area to allow DF to open it up and get the leading edge to sit a bit lower to the ground.
#rahmbo has been testing a couple grinds to his Jaws Forged 60* due to refinement of technique. A variety of angles in leading edge bevels have been tested against the stock wedge that helped him win the US Open.

Korn Ferry Tour Build Sheets: Mike Soroka was on site at the LECOM event in Lakewood, Fla. It was a crazy busy week as it’s the first event stateside (with the truck) in a good while.

These were a few of the builds they did, will confirm what goes in play later this week.

Taking next week off but will be back on-site at Bay Hill, Players, Match-Play and Texas Open.
