W.O.W First Look: Jaws Full Toe wedges

I’ll def have at least the 60 in the bag going forward, this shape and the window the ball fly’s out of is what I grew up with, it’s home.

Over the years, if there was one piece of Callaway equipment I had in the bag more than not it was the wedges. I mean…it’s Roger Cleveland. The Goat. The Man. The OG. I have been a fan since I started this game back in 1994 and he was one person I dug into right away. Now I would consider him a dear friend which I still can’t believe. IT’S NUTS.

The point is I have yet to not be excited/curious when any of his products hit the street. The Jaws Full Toe is no different. Now, I need to get this out of the way now, this is not the PM Grind. The only resemblance between this and that is the higher toe and full face of grooves. That’s where it ends. I’m tackling that now because although the PM grinds are amazing wedges (I play one) they are designed for Lefty and as we know…he’s built differently. I had to grind mine into submission to make it user-friendly although countless players rant and rave about them. The popular opinion is they are UNREAL around the greens but require a Mickelson brain on full shots.

Mr. Cleveland and Callaway spent the past couple of years taking in that feedback and here we are:

Introducing the The 2021 JAWS FULL TOE WEDGES

Jaws Full Toe in Black PVD and Tour Satin w/ Raw Face
Satin (Raw face on Top) Black PVD (Not Raw but still nails) on bottom

So what do we have?

I’ll let the Callaway marketing team and all the big golf sites give you the tech details, what I like to do is give you the elevator pitch in Wunder-speak with the only categories that matter to me. Look/Feel/Performance

Look: Callaway has NEVER made a bad-looking wedge. It’s a simple fact. I said it at WRX and I’m saying it now. They all look good. Yes, even the PM grind if you understand what it is. The Jaws Full Toe is no exception. From the leading edge to the par area to the beautiful yet subtle C-grind. It passes the eye candy test. Typically in this niche category, the shapes can get a little distracting with offset and rounded leading edges. The Jaws Full toe has a nice straight leading edge, minimal offset giving the player a “traditional” look in a very modern-day wedge.

Feel:

If I’m being really honest, almost every wedge on the market feels pretty damn good. It’s quite hard to find one that doesn’t. In that case, I’ll say the Jaws Full Toe maintains that crisp/solid feel I like and a good portion of that experience is due to the C-Grind. As you’ll see in the video above, the C-Grind doesn’t dig out of the square position and there is plenty of relief on the back end to give me that nice little click when I hit one with an open face-off of a tight lie. It’s the right grind in my opinion that helps the feel on any wedge. In the case of a full swing shot, the turf interaction is perfect (for me) and I like how it has plenty of bounce to make the sole feel fast thru the turf with no risk of digging. This is why the right grind is so important, you get the wrong one, the “feel” will suffer but if you find the right one, it’s Purina.

Performance:

On the day we filmed the video I had a ton of time off-camera to mess around with the Jaws Full Toe hitting every shot I could think of and my feedback is… it’s foolproof. Once again that’s for me. Square, open, hooded it never wanted to dig and I liked that with the CG where it is, the ball doesn’t want to ride up the face. The full face of grooves and extra meat up towards the toe (IE Full Toe) give the player what I like to call a second sweet spot. Those open faces shot’s out of the high-toe section now have some useful real estate to add maintain spin as opposed to that dead knuckleball we all despise.

Good wedge players want low and spinny at all costs, hitting it high ain’t the problem. The goal is spinny knee-high fastballs that inspire control and some imagination. These wedges are designed to drive the ball down and with the grooves (and the exhausting cutting system) pushing the limits as far as they can go all players now have access to a short game tool that will give them the ability to play that cool looking low spinner we see on TV. Who doesn’t want that?

The Verdict:

So does it live up to what Callaway says it is? YES. It’s the Roger Cleveland/Callaway wedge that we all know and love with a bit of tech cooked in and some extra grooves up the face to add a few more shots to your arsenal. Keep in mind that the C-Grind is a good middle ground shape that will fit a TON of players. I like that we chose that particular grind for this as these typed of wedges tend to get a little too much beef at the bottom and in my opinion that negates more players from taking advantage of the technology. You definitely need some help but not training wheels.

I’ll definitely have at least the 60 in the bag (maybe 54) going forward, this shape and the window the ball fly’s out of is what I grew up with, it’s home. I like home. I play well there.

Happy hunting

Currently I have 52, 56, 60 Jaws wedges and am eager to try Full Toe. I love 10-12 degrees bounce. My 52 is go to wedge around the green. Btw, loved my fitting experience at Callaway two years. Nobody is getting my Apex out of my bag. Thanks

I’m a high handicapper who only been playing about a year and chipping is a hard for me to control this wedge sounds like it could be very versatile in making different shots around the green. I would to check that wedge out. Thanks.

My son has developed a love for the game. He’s a lefty and will be 16 soon. A nice set of good quality lefty clubs would be an awesome gift.

After a short experiment with a high toe I quickly went back to a Vokey M Grind my old favorite and swore I would never leave them again. I haven’t been able to play much over the last month so my son and I went out for a little Parent/Child Tournament prep. Walking to the chipping green and a mini tour player buddy says take this with you. It is his new Full Toe! It’s a sweet wedge with a lot of zip. The shop credit may have a calling now.
