Charles Schwab Challenge/Sr. PGA Championship Tour Truck Report

Overall it was a pretty quiet week on the trucks. A lot of the players who played at Kiawah came over to Colonial Tuesday or Wednesday which gave everyone some time to catch their breath. I was at Southern Hills for the Sr. PGA Championship and like the truck at Colonial it was fairly tame. There was a few juicy nuggets to discuss so lets get into it!!

On site at Colonial we had Tour Manger Jacob Davidson, Kellen Watson, Simon Wood and Odysseys Joe Toulon. At Southern Hills it was Manager Johnny Thompson and myself.

Phil Mickelson paid a visit to the Ely Callaway Performance Center on Monday afternoon to see his boy Gerritt Pon and celebrate #6 with the Callaway crew. Lefty has often come to HQ after a big win to share the love and thank the team for the hard work. I love that about him.

Tour manager Jacob Davidson spent some time last Thursday in Charlotte with Callaway Staffer Will Gordon. JD and our Head of Tour Operations Tim Reed will make home visits from time to time to have our staff in a quiet atmosphere and get them SUPER dialed in.

The main adjustment besides lofts and lie checks was getting Will into a new driver. The Callaway team will go thru the seasons data with the player and not only address any deficiencies but also create new opportunities in the bag.

Will who is a VERY high speed player (cruising in around 185MPH) was looking for more head stability and found it in a new Epic MAX LS (10.5@9.9, Strong Cog, 12G Slider) with an MCA Tensei White CK Pro 70TX (Tipped 2, 45 Inches). They also added 10G of lead tape towards the front which isn’t a common thing but helped get Will dialed in perfectly.

Matthew Wallace swapped out his TCB 4 iron for an X-Forged CB. Matt liked the offset in XF CB and is happy with the crisp feel of the iron. All of Matt’s irons come shafted up with Nippon 120X shafts.

Si Woo Kim moved back into his Apex Pro ’19 (2Dot) irons out of the TCB’s he has played for a few weeks. Kim wants to work more spin into the TCB and will continue testing as the summer goes on. Heading into Torrey he wanted to have everything dialed and sometimes going back to something comfortable is the best course of action.

At Southern Hills, Johnny Thompson put new Epic Speed 💎💎💎 fairway woods into the bags of Retief Goosen (15, Fujikura Speeder TR 757X), Olin Browne 💎💎💎T (18, Fujikura Ventus Red 8X), and a new set of TCB irons for Rich Beem.

On the Odyssey front, a long-time Odyssey user swapped out his now-famous White #2 for a WH OG#7S. The player is currently in the hunt at the Sr. PGA Championship.

Summer Schedule

Memorial (Muirfield Village)
KFT BMW Charity Pro-AM (Thornblade Club & The Cliffs Valley)
US Open (Torrey Pines)
KPMG LPGA Championship (The Highlands)
Rocket Mortgage Classic (Detroit Golf Club)
