Harry Hall puts two drivers in the bag at the Shriners (WITB)

It was back in 2006 before his 2nd Masters’ victory that Phil Mickelson put two Drivers in play. The idea was to have one in that bag that went forever (AKA Bombs) and the other for fairway finding. This week at The Shriners in Las Vegas, PGA Tour Rookie Harry Hall has gone down the same road.

Hall, a standout on the 2021 Korn Ferry Tour (Wichita Open Champ), is a fun follow. His attire is a throwback to the ’50s, and his action is just as old school. Nonetheless, he’s a modern-style player and KILLS it.

Hall who has been focused on speed the last two seasons was inspired to try something longer in the driver based on the results he was seeing from Bryson and Phil, he began testing the idea and realized not only did it work, it left a fun gap in his bag that he needed to fill.

This is what Mike Soroka had to say:

When Harry switched from the KBS Tour shaft to an MCA Tensei Orange AV Raw in his 45 1/4” gamer, he saw a much tighter shot pattern, which made him think he could pick up distance going longer without sacrificing too much accuracy. He tested 46” and 46.5 lengths but 46” was better overall.

Once he confirmed he loved the 46” driver, he felt that a driver going 350+ was too long at times…but at the same time didn’t want to go from 350+ to 270ish with a 3w, especially when he feels like he can hit Max LS driver just as straight as a 3w.

So rather than losing all that yardage, his “short driver” at 45 1/4” would go 285-310 and be very accurate. The issue now was finding a fairway wood that would gap into the irons. We built up an Epic Speed 5-wood, and the gap was perfect. The 5-wood now gives him a 250-265 club that fits perfectly behind the two big sticks.
