It’s Tuesday at Augusta and we draw ever closer to the opening shots of Round 1 of the 2021 Masters. Yes you have to do everything well this week, its a major (kind of par for the course) but there are key clubs our staff will need to contend. In my opinion these are the sticks that are important if our guys wanna win:)
Jon Rahm Odyssey 2B10 Putter (37 Inches, Proto DBL Bend Steel Shaft, 2+ Loft, 68 Lie)
The guy has been a Top 10 machine this year and in my eyes, the only thing that has held him back from a win is putting on the weekend. Driver/Irons/Wedge are kind of always there. If he putts, he wins. There are about 3 players I can think of that I can say that about, he’s one of them. Also, being a new Dad is a kind of unicorn sauce that leads to great things. What do they say about babies? They bring magic:)
Xander Schauffele (4-PW) Apex TCB Irons (Nippon Pro Modus 130X)
When Xander wins he tends to out-hit the field with the irons. Look out for his GIR and proximity to the hole this week, if his numbers are near the top, that typically means he’s sniffing the lead and or running away from the field.
Phil Mickelson Mavrik SZ 9@7 (Fujikura Ventus Black 6TX @47.5)
“High filthy nasty bombs” The driver represents more to Phil than almost anyone in the field. In the past couple of years, it’s been more or less a momentum stick that used to be reserved for his putter. If Phil is swinging the driver well it seems to bleed confidence throughout the bag. More psychological than physical in this sense, a driver that flys long and out in front of him gives Phil that swagger that frees him up to play Augusta how he sees it in his head. If that happens it’s going to be a fun weekend. He can still win here, if he gets on the first page going into Saturday, the guy knows what to do. Case in point TW in ’19. It can happen.
