Traditionally, any major championship week is slow goings on the tour trucks. In the case of the Masters, you can add a VERY to that comment. Usually, it’s the simple loft and lie checks, fresh wedges, etc. The point is if you are showing up to Augusta searching for something, good luck. Nonetheless, there were a few little nuggets that went down this week.
On-site we had Tour reps Jacob Davidson, Kellen Watson, Simon Wood, and Odysseys Joe Toulon.
Matt Wallace: Came to Augusta with a damaged 5 Iron from Valero so a replacement was built at the same spec. The Apex MB ’18 (25 loft, 60.5 lie, D1, small grooves) is equipped with a Nippon Pro Modus3 120X shaft.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout: Had a fresh set of MD Forged wedges built with a custom C grind on the 60/10.
Wedges: MD Forged (50/10, 56/12@54, 60/10)
Shafts: Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
Bez also had a new Mavrik SZ 7 Wood (21@19, 41.75 inches, D3.5) with am MCA Diamana DF 80TX. The new fairway was not in play for this week, however. Testing will begin next week.
Si-Woo Kim: Had a new Mavrik Sub Zero 5 Wood built with a bit less loft than his previous gamer. The 18-degree head was bent to 16.5 and plays at 42.25 to give Si Wood a little extra ball speed/distance off the tee at Augusta. The new fairway has a Fujikura Ventus Blue 8X
Xander Schauffele: Had his specs checked after a grip change he made a couple of weeks back. Xander was in Golf Prides Z Cord Mid Size for a good run but went into Golf Prides MCC (Black/White, 58R 3Bottom/2Mid/1Full)
Jon Rahm: Had a brand new Jaws Forged 60/10 built with “Kepa” stamped in it for the new dad. The new LW has a PX 6.5 and Golf Pride MCC Midsize (Red/Black) grip. Congrats Rahmbo!!!
Francesco Molinari: Swapped his CSX’ 20 with Triple Track for a CSX’20 plain white.
Odyssey:
Si-Woo Kim: Switched to a black Toulon Madison with Charcoal Stroke Lab shaft this week. Kim started putting with “the claw” on Saturday of last week so we went with a Super Stroke Flatso 1.0. Popular grip for that style of grip.
Free Agents/Non-Staffers:
Hudson Swafford (Non-Staffer)– switched back to a custom Versa 2 Ball with a Stroke Lab shaft.
Ian Woosnam (Champions Tour) – Switched to a Toulon Austin with a Charcoal Stroke Lab shaft. Ian loved the extra 30G of head weight and went with no sightline on the new putter.
