The Genesis Invitational: TOUR Report and Markus Byrd WITB

There are very few stops on the TOUR route that compare to the magic that is Riviera. Beyond the mystique and history that surrounds this venue, the PGA Tour deemed the Genesis Invitational an “Elevated Event,” which means the purse size goes to 20M USD. Arguably the best players in the world show up to compete, including one (whom we all know) making his 2023 debut.

On the Callaway Performance Trailer, it was business as usual. In all honesty, most of the MAJOR tweaks regarding Paradym have been sorted over the previous three to four weeks. So beyond the typical loft and lie checks, there wasn’t a TON of activity to speak of.

If there is one nugget to consider amongst what we are seeing on TOUR, it’s that a high percentage of our staff are lofting up (.5 degrees) on AVG with Paradym. For example, Xander is closer to 10, Rahm is closer to 11.5, and Hadwin is north of 12.

Why? In my opinion, its a few things but mainly its the stability of the head and the spin robustness. In the past, at higher lofts, spin would spike, but with Paradym, it doesn’t, so it allows players the ability to add loft for optimal launch and spin, all while not sacrificing distance. Loft=Control. So as faces are pushed to the limits in regards to COR, Paradym is pushing the efficiency (loft+spin+launch+ball speed) to a totally new realm.

Close to 85% of our staff have switched to the new model, which is an insane number, with more coming, including Sam Burns, who is part of a bigger experiment that I hope to explain later. So for anyone wondering why the switch hasn’t happened for Sam? My answer is there is a reason, an awesome reason, and if I’m able to share the story, it’ll blow your gear head hair back.
