W.O.W Journal #007: The Best WITB I’ve ever had…

No Bull S$$t..this is the best…

No Bull S$$t..this is the best…

In my day I have had some serious bag setups. I was lucky enough to work at WRX which was a gear junkies dream and in the early days, I had Nico Bollini to piggy back off of. He played at USC (Titleist) and signed with Cleveland out of college. It was hand me down central.

The best up to this point was the ’98 bag with my Callaway GBB 7.5 w/ the RCH 36, S2H2 3-wood, Ping Eye2 Copper’s 2-PW, and my 588 wedges.

A VERY close second was a year later with the 975D 7.5 with an Ei70, same 3-wood, X12 2-4, 962B 5-PW, and some Vokey “Raw” wedges I got somehow but don’t really remember. There were others but these two stand out because of how well I played with them. Lots of good rounds, lots of great shots but most importantly a ton of trust.

Until now…my updated Callaway bag is on 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The bag I have put together over the past few months has not only given me back the performance I’m looking for, but in addition, I have some new options that weren’t there before namely consistency. In the 10-15 rounds I’ve played with this setup, I haven’t had an off day so to speak. If I shot an 80 it was because I made stupid mistakes rather than not trusting my gear. I’ve had a lot of that trust the past few years, not because the gear wasn’t sound, it was a combo of a lack of time and the stars lining up correctly. HOWEVER, I will say with 100% conviction that the ball (CSX) has been a game-changer. I’m able to do things with this ball from 150 and in that, I struggled with before. 150 and down represents 9-iron to LW for me and I NEVER hit full shots with these clubs. What I always battled was lack of spin on less than full shots, CSX has given me that spin back. I feel like I have a modern ball off the tee and a balata for the short stuff. It’s amazing.

For the record, I have yet to be officially fit into any of this stuff. It was all done through curiosity, conversation, some guesswork, and an open mind. At some point ill have Gerritt dial me in but honestly I’m not sure there is much more to be gained. My gear junky radar kicked in and I’m proud of how I’ve mildly self-fit myself. NOT RECOMMENDED but this time I got lucky 🤷🏻‍♂️

Every club in my bag does what I ask it to do. THATS ALL THAT MATTERS FOLKS.

Some interesting things to note for the shafts in my woods, I have swapped the 1K 70TX and Kai’li 80TX with Ventus Red 7X/8X. Ventus Red 8X in the 5-wood is a MONSTER, I was hitting it too far so swapped it out. In the 3-wood it’s fantastic and will probably go back in when I get to softer conditions.

Enjoy the pics/video and if you have any questions fire way:)

Thanks for sharing. What do you think is the most difficult part about getting clubs to match your game? What are non-negotiables when considering getting fitted etc?
    Thanks Johnny! Fantastic content !
